HOL in Oct: Drugs & startups
How can Dhamma help a drug addict overcome his challenges? What are the challenges of starting a business and exiting it? October covered a wide range of fun topics for us to ponder over.
Greetings!
The end of the year is nigh! In October, we covered fighting drug addiction and building a startup. And no, we didn’t talk about how drugs fuel startups. We leave Elon Musk to that.
Starting something bigger than yourself
In October, we explored Jia Yee’s story of starting a company and then painfully exiting it. We contrasted that with Sis Salvi’s story of using the Dhamma as her guide in building her accounting business.
Kai Xin & I also explored putting ourselves on a video podcast to share how we started HOL (and showcased how poorly I knew her outside of work).
Beyond ourselves, we also showcased a Dhamma review of Netflix’s Hunger and also what we can do if we find our parents verbally abusing one another.
Allow yourself moments for gentle surprises
As shared, HOL partnered with SBM, DAYWA, BYN to run the first-ever net-walking for Buddhist professionals.
It heartened me to see participants staying back after the session to exchange contacts and head out for late dinner after the event.
The organisers have decided to keep this initiative going into 2024!
If you are between 20-40 years old and want to stay abreast of future walks, do join the channel here.
Caring for others can be tiring
In the Buddhist circle, we often see burnt-out/close to burnt-out individuals trying to help alleviate the pain of sentient beings.
I read this article and found it super useful in sharing a checklist on caring for others while caring for oneself. Always blessed to have great content from Lion’s Roar!
