The First Few Steps
Hello there sponsors, writers & readers! A new name popping in here, it’s Cheryl the newbie of Handful of Leaves’ team (a different Cheryl from our podcast host). A lot can change in a very short amount of time, I hope you’re adapting well to the ups & downs in life throughout March.
March is the time where we start the experiment to test our hypothesis. As our ‘Effective Presentation Workshop from a Buddhist Lens’ conducted earlier this year was well received we decided to do a second run of the workshop, but make it better! (Thanks to the constructive feedbacks that we got from the past participants)
Communicating ideas is an art that takes practice, being present at the workshop, I’ve also learned some tips that I found useful for me to apply in my career and personal communication. I personally would recommend this workshop to my colleagues and friends of all ages as it really helped me restructure the way I conduct presentations & discussions at work (this is coming from me as a ‘semi participant’ not as a team member from HOL).
Skeptical about my review being biased, you can follow us on Instagram or telegram to get the latest update on our future workshops & events. We had a second rerun of the workshop recently on 22nd of April 2023 and once again we are thankful towards the participants that spent half of their day with us.
Other than the workshop we are also hosting our first get together on the 26th May 2023 at Kallang Wave Mall. We’ve decided to step out of our screen and take this opportunity to get to know you better and also to express our gratitude for your continuous support throughout the past years. You’ve helped us grow and we would like to take a dip into your thoughts to explore how we can better support you. RSVP here!
In case you’ve missed out: March HOL Recap
We build connections and relationship daily from a momentary connection with a stranger on how we want our food to be, 我要这个,不要那个 (I want this, don’t want that) to building deeper connections with our friends, family, colleagues and partners. Building these connections requires effort and different connections has different levels like a game. Some are easier to build and some are more difficult.
In March, our writers shared with us their experiences connecting with others and how they’ve learned to handle difficult situations when building these connections. One article that I personally resonate with was ‘Caring for those who don’t wish for us to care’ and ‘Saying no at work when you’re a people pleaser’.
Recently the message that ‘we are not too young to die’ has been ‘highlighted’ to me in real life and on social media and it made me reflect on the thought of death. Shout out to Siew Lin for sharing with us her journey in battling stage 4 breast cancer at the age of 31. This podcast episode opens up our perspective on the raw emotions a person goes through when faced with the hardest truth of life ‘you’re dying soon’.
As Buddhist we are on a journey of self exploration and growth. We each have different reaction, goals and experiences. Handful of leaves will continue our journey to explore stories untold and share the rawest perspectives different Buddhists around Southeast Asia faced in life.
Thank you again for reading! See you next month ;)
