HOL in Dec: The Time Robber
Every year end, we are reminded that time has been taken. How can we make the best of the remaining time for this samsaric life?
Greeting supporters,
Happy Chinese New Year! I hope that your entry into 2025 has been smooth with aspirations to let go of something negative and to seek out the wholesome. One thing is for sure: the time robber sits on our back, ready to pounce when we lose mindfulness. More to come later on fighting that robber.
A nerdy thank-you
Our HOL team would like to thank each of you for supporting and sharing our content with loved ones. In 2024, we started experimenting with vlogs, short reels, and more video-format podcasts. Getting behind a camera for the Dhamma is no easy feat, given the high % of introverts on our team.
In 2024, our website touched the lives (and eyeballs) of 104k unique readers, with an average of 308 visits every day.

The time robber
Always struggling to finish stuff on your to-do list? Me too. I often find myself complaining that I lack the time for the important things.
I decided to review my screen time and saw that I spent close to 7 hours on Instagram in a week. The notion that I have ‘no time to meditate’ was clearly an excuse. I then installed Opal to reduce my screen time usage and my screen time dropped steadily to about 2hours+ a week.
It is good to think about what robs our time from the things that really matter rather than accepting that ‘I have no time’ at face value.

Here is a quick recap on the articles we ran in Dec’24.

Detour: Allergies
Organising Buddhist activities made me realise that there are many interesting allergies out there. Why do allergies happen or develop as we age? Check out the video below.
